Using ECERS-3 to Enhance Your Program: Creating High-Quality Learning Environments
Directors, educators, and program leaders are often looking for meaningful ways to strengthen the quality of their environments and everyday practices. This workshop focuses on how to effectively use the Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS-3) as a practical, supportive tool to guide reflection, planning, and continuous improvement.
Participants will explore how ECERS-3 can be used beyond assessment—as a framework for designing rich, engaging environments that support high-quality early learning experiences for young children. The session will also introduce connections to ITERS-3, SACERS, and FCCERS, helping participants understand how these tools align across age groups and settings.
Through guided reflection and real-world examples, educators will examine their current environments and practices, identify strengths, and uncover opportunities for growth. Emphasis will be placed on creating intentional spaces, selecting meaningful materials, and supporting interactions that foster children’s development, well-being, and sense of belonging.
Participants will leave with practical strategies and clear, achievable action plans to immediately enhance their classrooms and programs.
Participants will:
- Develop a deeper understanding of ECERS-3 as a tool for quality improvement
- Explore how environment, materials, and interactions impact children’s learning and development
- Reflect on current practices and identify areas for growth
- Make connections between ECERS-3, ITERS-3, SACERS, and FCCERS
- Create specific, actionable goals to strengthen their learning environments right away
This workshop is ideal for educators and leaders who are ready to move beyond compliance and use assessment tools to create thoughtful, responsive, and high-quality environments that truly support children and families.
